Spain hit sensational form during the 2010 World Cup, who defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in the tournament final. This form was continued into 2012 where Spain won the Euros, achieving a historic international double. However, the question on everyone’s lips is: are Spain capable of defending their title, especially when teams such as Brazil and Germany are inexorable form. There are still great odds to be had betting on the 2014 World Cup winner – many online gambling sites like M88 Indonesia are also offering further incentives for placing bets in the run up so have the potential to win big if you think you can forecast the winner!

Spain’s team remains hugely impressive. Squad mainstays such as Ramos, Iniesta, Xavi, Silva and Fabregas are still present from the 2012 team, and will bring some welcome experience to the team. In addition to this, the new talent of the formidable Diego Costa (who could have been representing Brazil in the World Cup) is a welcome inclusion in attack. As are Pedro and Negredo, with Spain’s former poster-boy, Fernando Torres, being dropped from the squad after being unable to secure any kind of form.

With the tournament being held in Brazil, a lot of attention and pressure has been placed upon the Brazilian national team. The world expects them to lift the trophy – yet everyone appears to have forgotten the threat that Spain pose. They are a highly skilled side with one of the best attacking line-ups in the tournament, and also have some of the most in demand defenders too. Overall, Spain have a great team that is well rounded and on paper can stand up to anyone in the tournament.

To write Spain off before the tournament has even started would be extremely unwise. It is easy to get caught up with all the speak of the Brazilian team sambaing their way to the top, but things are relatively that straight forward in football.

If Spain can finish top of their group, they will avoid a last 16 clash with Brazil, which would dramatically boost their chances of going all the way. However, Spain do have the Netherlands in their group, which sets the stage for an intriguing battle for the group top spot. In addition to this, Mexico are also in the mix, and are capable of impressing on the world stage.

If Spain start the tournament well, they have the talent and experience to win the tournament. It would be an awesome achievement to retain the title and will be a thought that motivates the team. If achieved, they would go down in history as only the third team to secure consecutive World Cup titles, with the other teams being Italy and Brazil. This would seal their position as perhaps the greatest team within the modern era. However, this all depends on their performance in the group stage. If they do not finish top of their group, they will be making progression any further in the tournament much more difficult for themselves.
